Vitamin Injections

Vitamins may be administered in multiple ways. At Revitalist, we offer intravenous vitamins as well as through injections. You may ask, what is the difference between the two and which is better for me? Let’s look at each one.

What is the Difference Between Vitamin Injections and Vitamin Infusions?
IV Vitamin Infusions

Intravenous (IV) infusions are the most efficient way to receive vitamins. While oral vitamins are only absorbed at around 40 percent, research shows that IV vitamins can be absorbed by up to 90 percent in many cases. This is because the vitamins are injected straight into a vein, which directly goes to your bloodstream. When you take vitamins orally, your body has to metabolize them as they go through your digestive system.

An intravenous infusion is the fastest way to deliver vitamins, medications, and fluids into the body. At Revitalist, when receiving vitamins this way, they are administered by way of infusion with additional fluid to protect the vein of irritation. Intravenous therapy is a good option for you if you have electrolyte imbalances or need extra hydration. These infusions usually last 4-6 weeks and take around 30 minutes to an hour to infuse depending on what vitamin you receive. During each infusion, you will be in a spa-like environment, so this is your time to relax and revitalize your health!

Vitamin Injections

Vitamin injections can be used as an alternative to IV vitamins when looking for a faster route to receive vitamins!  Because of busy schedules and time restraints, we offer injections that can be done in less than five minutes. Vitamin injections are given intramuscularly, meaning, they are injected into the muscle in either the arm or the buttocks and then absorbed into your bloodstream. Since injections are given into the muscle and not into a vein, the vitamins are absorbed more slowly so you don’t feel results as quickly. However, the results may last longer than IV vitamins.

Hydroxocobalamin (Vitamin B12) – $40
Hydroxocobalamin, Vitamin B12, is an injectable form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 helps your body use fat and carbohydrates for energy and allows it the ability to generate new proteins at a greater rate. It is also important for healthy functioning blood, cells, and nerves. Most people get enough vitamin B12 in their diet, but a deficiency may occur in certain health conditions (e.g., poor nutrition, stomach/intestinal problems, infection, cancer). Serious vitamin B12 deficiency may result in anemia, stomach problems, and nerve damage.

Thiamine – Vitamin B1
Thiamine, Vitamin B1, enables the body to use carbohydrates as energy. It is essential for glucose metabolism, and it plays a key role in nerve, muscle, and heart function. Those at greatest risk of Thiamine Deficiencies include those with increased levels of alcohol consumption, intestinal disorders causing malabsorption issues (some examples may include gastric bypass, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, gastric cancers). Deficiencies can include symptoms of nerve damage, short-term memory loss, and muscle weakness.

Riboflavin – Vitamin B2
Riboflavin, Vitamin B2, is a vitamin that is needed for growth and overall good health. Recent studies mention the negative effects on cardiac and neurologic function when a deficiency is noted. Vitamin B2 helps the body break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats to produce energy, and it allows oxygen to be used by the body. “Riboflavin is also used for the development and function of the skin, lining of the digestive tract, blood cells, and other vital organs,” Dr. Sherry Ross, women’s health expert at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California.

Deficiency can cause anemia, sore throat, mouth or lip sores, inflammation of the skin, and swelling of soft tissue in the mouth. These symptoms can show up after just a few days of deficiency, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Pantothenic Acid – Vitamin B5
Vitamin B5, Pantothenic Acid, is one of the most important vitamins for human life. It is necessary for making blood cells, and it helps you convert the food you eat into energy much like the other known seven B vitamins. All B vitamins help you convert the protein, carbohydrates, and fats you eat into energy. Vitamin B5 also helps for the maintenance of healthy skin, hair, and eyes, proper functioning of the nervous system and liver, healthy digestive tract, making red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body, making sex and stress-related hormones in the adrenal glands.

Pyridoxine – Vitamin B6
Pyridoxine, Vitamin B6, is an essential component of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and GABA. Deficiencies may impair the body’s ability to activate other essential pathways such as the methylation cycle. Patients with poor diet, alcoholism, or poor digestion may be deficient. Symptoms could include “brain fog”, mental slowing, anxiety, insomnia , headaches, and weakness.
